Privacy Policy

My Side helps people going through a divorce or family-law dispute collect their evidence and share it with their lawyer. That evidence is some of the most personal information a person has, so this page says plainly what we collect, who sees it, and what you can ask us to do. We have tried to keep it free of legal jargon.
Who we are
My Side is run by the team behind My Side. For anything in this policy, write to support@operatingdivorce.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, password (stored scrambled, never readable by us) and whether you are a client or a lawyer.
- The evidence you add: photos, screenshots, documents, PDFs, messages, voice notes, and text or links you share into the app, plus anything you type about them. Evidence can include information about other people, including your children and the other party.
- Details we work out from your evidence: text read out of images and PDFs, suggested dates, and suggested places to file things. These are kept separately from your original, and a suggested date is only treated as the date once you confirm it.
- Your case details: what you tell us about the matter, such as the parties and key dates.
- Records of what happened: when something was saved, a fingerprint of the original file, and a log of important actions (who confirmed what, and when).
- Google Drive files, only if you connect Drive: we ask for read-only access and import only the files you choose.
- Basic error reports if the app breaks, without your name or email by default.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your information.
How we use it
- To keep your evidence safe, in order, and exactly as you added it.
- To let the people you choose, such as your lawyer, see it.
- To read text out of images and documents and to suggest where things belong, using AI (see below).
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and give you support.
- To meet legal obligations.
AI
To read text out of images and PDFs and to suggest dates and filing places, the content of what you add is sent to Anthropic, whose AI model does this work. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent this way is not used to train its models. AI suggestions can be wrong. They are only suggestions, nothing is filed or dated on the strength of AI alone, and your original is never changed.
Who can see your information
- You.
- People you invite to your case, such as your lawyer. Once you invite a lawyer, they can see the evidence in that case.
- Us, only as needed to run, secure and support the service.
- The companies that help us run it, listed below.
- The other party is never given access by us. What is produced to them is for you and your lawyer to decide.
We may disclose information if the law or a court requires it.
Companies we rely on
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and file storage. Our data is held in the London region.
- Vercel: hosting for the website and app. Their servers can be in the United States.
- Anthropic: the AI described above.
- Sentry: error monitoring, in the EU.
- Google: only if you connect Google Drive.
Because some of these are outside your country, your information may be processed in other countries. We choose providers with their own security and data-protection commitments.
Keeping it safe
- Information is encrypted while it travels, and our providers encrypt stored data.
- Each case is walled off: you can only see cases you belong to.
- Originals are fingerprinted when saved, so any later change would show. Important actions are written to a log that cannot be edited.
- On the phone app you can lock My Side behind your fingerprint or face.
- When you share something into the app from another app, the temporary copy on your phone is removed once it is saved, or within 24 hours.
No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that nothing will ever go wrong. If your information is affected by a security incident, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. To delete your account and the evidence in it, email support@operatingdivorce.com from the address on the account. We will do it within 30days. Copies in our providers' backups clear out on their normal schedule. If you share a case with a lawyer, copies they have already downloaded or used are theirs to manage under their own professional duties.
Your rights
Under data-protection laws such as South Africa's POPIA, and the GDPR where it applies, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how it is used. Write to support@operatingdivorce.com. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the data-protection regulator in your country, which in South Africa is the Information Regulator.
Children
My Side is for adults aged 18 and over. Your evidence may mention your children; we treat that with the same care as everything else and use it only to provide the service to you.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
